Description
Light Performance Balsa Short Board model do vary in shape, size, rocker and of course performance. See below several options that are in stock or can be ordered with a built time of around 3-4 weeks for a custom.
The Stick
The Stick is a balsa skinned EPS foam core shortboard. The recycled EPS foam and the absence of a stringer create a significant reduction in weight bringing the Stick to around 3kg. The end result is a high performance balsawood surfboard with far greater strength and durability than your regular polyurethane board.
For summer and its small waves, the Riley Stick is also available as a quad. This quad is way faster than your standard thruster or even twin fin and much more responsive. For the travelling surfer and to take advantage of the versatility of the quad we recommend using the Riley balsa coloured fin system. This allows for changing fin setups and lets you choose between fin size, rake, angles, material, and more.
The Limb
The Limb is a balsa skinned EPS foam core shortboard. The recycled EPS foam and the absence of a stringer create a significant reduction in weight bringing the Limb to around 3kg with great memory and flex. The end result is a high performance balsawood surfboard with far greater strength and durability than your regular polyurethane board.
This is a great board for beach breaks from 2 to 8 foot waves, the Riley Limb has a set thrusters fins – but boxes are optional at no extra cost. This thruster has great drive and speed down the line.
For the travelling surfer and to take advantage of the versatility we recommend using the Riley balsa coloured fin system. This allows for changing fin setups and lets you choose between fin size, rake, angles, material, and more.
As always we are glad to customize this board to your needs. Simply download our custom order form here.
The Native
For summer and its small waves, the Native is a thruster thrasher for the larger or old generation – who don’t want to go to a longboard or a fish – this is in between these. For the travelling surfer we are using the Australian made boxes that blend in to the balsa and fit all FCS fins. This allows for changing fin setups and lets you choose between fin size, rake, angles, material, and more.
The Native is a balsa skinned EPS foam core shortboard. The recycled EPS foam and the absence of a stringer create a significant reduction in weight bringing the Native to merely 3kg (excluding fins). The end result is a high performance balsawood surfboard with far greater strength and durability than your regular polyurethane board.
The 2 Kilo Killa
The ultimate high performance short board. The 2 Kilo Killa is a thruster setup for the wirery person that can break some moves. So sorry Mark for the delayed text - just wanted to say a massive thank you for all your support with Jack finalizing the surfboard for his major work. Cannot thank you enough. He loved working with you Kristy
He is a good person. He has some talent in this type of work.you should be proud of him
I just wanted to get back to you regarding the order sent to France.
After a hand injury forced a break (amazing what a planer can do to your hand... first time in 30 years of use!) I finally got around to opening things up and began shaping this week.
The cut lumber looks great, that'll be for the second board.
Anyway, I'm stoked to be advancing on this and thanks for working with me on billing and shipping.

Hi Mark,
Just wanted to share a quick update — I’ve completed my scratch build of the RES Eagle competition glider, and I’m stoked with the result! Every single part was cut, sanded, and painted by hand, and the take-off weight came in at just 436 grams.
Today was the maiden flight, marking the end of this 4-week project. I’ve attached a few photos so you can see what your balsa wood has turned into!
Thanks again for the great balsa — it made all the difference in this build.
Cheers,
Holger

6'11 Semi Gun Birthday Gift
I signed myself up to a masterclass with Mark to make myself a unique 50th birthday gift for myself. The results speak for themselves.
Initial engagement with Mark ensured we were on track to make the Balsa surfboard of my dreams. The next steps to progress the lengths of balsa to a surfboard shape were clear and precise thanks to Mark's guidance. Mark provides clear direction on what is required and is helpful when it comes to those tricky steps. The use of power tools and hand sanding was very therapeutic through the whole process.
Mark's experience shone through when we had some trouble with my special requests and finishes that were required. Mark was able to find solutions and ensured that the board finished in accordance with my initial design.
If you are on the fence about shaping your own Balsa board, I strongly suggest giving the process a go under Mark's guidance. You won't be sorry.
Thanks, Mark, for all your guidance and support in making my 50th birthday gift so unique.
A surf update to follow on how great it surfs.
